Decision-making Process by Users and Providers of Health Care Services During the AH1N1 Epidemic Influenza in Mexico: Lessons Learned and Challenges Ahead
2017, Archives of Medical ResearchCitation Excerpt :Some studies have shown high severity, hospital mortality, and nosocomial infections in patients with influenza AH1N1 during 2009 epidemic outbreak (10–12) In addition, previous reports emphasize the rapid progression of the illness toward fatal outcomes in patients who received delayed health care (13,14). Although systematic reviews have demonstrated that early onset of inhibitors of the neuraminidase reduces the risk of death compared with not giving antivirals of give them late, reduction of the risk for severe illness, including pneumonia, has not been solved (15,16). Moreover, decision making for seeking and utilization of health services has not been studied so far, nor the quality of the care process, and its impact on patient evolution has not been evaluated.
Excess mortality associated with influenza in Spain in winter 2012
2015, Gaceta SanitariaHigher vaccine effectiveness in seasons with predominant circulation of seasonal influenza A(H1N1) than in A(H3N2) seasons: Test-negative case-control studies using surveillance data, Spain, 2003-2011
2014, VaccineCitation Excerpt :Individual clinical and virological information has been collected since 2002. An evaluation of the Spanish influenza surveillance system concluded that the system met the European surveillance standards and it had a high level of acceptability and flexibility [8], also demonstrated during the pandemic season [9]. Influenza sentinel surveillance networks represent an adequate setting to estimate influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) using the test-negative case control design [10–12].
