    Possibly, these medium-term effects observed in both provinces (at around one week) are only reflecting the marked increase that follows prolonged exposure to a long-duration heat wave. This is extremely important when it comes to designing prevention plans because these must logically be in place throughout the entire period of influence (Montero et al., 2010b). In absolute numbers, the increases in heat wave-related mortality were greater in the provinces of Albacete, Ciudad Real and Toledo than in the provinces of Cuenca and Guadalajara (Table 3).
